Harry Winston Ocean Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar Automatic

The Harry Winston Ocean Collection celebrates its 20th anniversary with an extraordinary complication timepiece. The Ocean Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar Automatic 42mm gives the graphic codes of perpetual calendar watches a total overhaul. Architectural and geometric, this 42 mm timepiece in rose gold or white gold displays a biretrograde perpetual calendar through a play on contrast and levels.

Using the highest degree of detailing, reliefs and textures, this new perpetual calendar watch follows the course set by the Ocean collection, breaking with convention to make its own rules and transcend the classics. This exclusive watch harnesses these codes in a high- impact, masculine interpretation.

The Ocean Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar Automatic 42mm takes a new approach on how indications are presented on a Harry Winston perpetual calendar watch. They are set out within an area that is defined by color and by height levels. This represents a new design challenge for Harry Winston’s Ocean family of watches. One of the most noble and lavish complications has been rethought and incorporated into the design of a unique and striking watch with a modern aesthetic. This new piece comes in 18-karat rose or white gold, and will also be available in a limited anniversary edition of 20 timepieces in white gold with baguette-cut diamonds set into the bezel and lugs.

A first for an anniversary

This year marks two decades since the Ocean Collection cast its mark in the watch industry. The sportiest model in the House’s timepiece portfolio, the collection has a modern, exclusive feel, made for the man with exacting standards. Aesthetic codes like a plunging satin-finish bezel, and markedly offset lugs—accented with a gadroon and the three arches that encircle the crown—are deployed on the diameter of the cases, and strike the perfect balance between technical and masculine. In addition, the Ocean Collection is founded on two unique pillars: the constant pursuit of technical performance; and the balance of endless depth and display options.

Exceptional mechanics

Rethinking its presentation, Harry Winston fitted an extremely classic complication into its Ocean line, with a perpetual calendar that brings together the indications relating to the almanac—day, date, month, leap years and moon phases. Its mechanical movement allows the watch to display the correct number of days in each month – 28/29 days in February, and 30/31 for the other 11 months.

The calendar on the Ocean Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar Automatic 42mm is distinguished by its day and date indications, which are both retrograde. The hand showing the day rises, while the other hand descends. When they reach the end of their respective cycles, these hands will automatically jump back and begin their balletic arc again. The data presentation of this perpetual calendar watch also sets it apart.

Concentric decoding

A series of concentric circles on the dial of this perpetual calendar creates an orderly sequence of data display and buffer zones. The grained flange, which matches the color of the case, is reserved for the day and the date. Next comes a satin-finish thread that widens to include the Harry Winston emerald applique at 12 o’clock. The following ring is the hour circle, where Arabic numerals alternate with luminescent hour markers. A spiral latticework surrounds the heart of the dial and features a Clou de Paris motif—a reminder of how important textures are in the Ocean collection.

Set at 12 o’clock, the month sub-dial features a large skeletonized hand and includes the leap year indicator. Balance is provided by the moon phase at 6 o’clock. This interplay of satin-finished, grained, polished and textured patterns creates a legible matrix that guides the eye through the rich detailing on this exceptional dial.

An unequivocal approach

Equipped with an automatic movement inside the 18-karat rose or white gold case, the HW3501 caliber is regulated by a silicon balance spring and boasts a 72-hour power reserve. This autonomy is made possible by a white gold engraved openwork rotor, a hallmark of Harry Winston watches.

The weight of this technical expertise, and the power of its design, position the Ocean Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar Automatic 42mm as a resolutely masculine watch of great refinement with unrivaled aesthetic principles.
